Let me be Me

1/19/2005
Through all the rise and falls of the moon
Through all the blaze and haze of the sun,
I've lived my life, but not for me,
I just want to live for once selfishly.
Although its you who gave birth to me,
You who gave food and clothes to me,
You who gave words and smiles to me,
Showed me to walk and tread carefully.
Isn't it time for me to be me?
You want for me to grow and be brave,
Showed me manners and to behave,
Learn to care and share and to save,
Follow paths that success has paved,
But I want to be me.
I'm not a doctor, a lawyer, a singer,
Not an actor, an officer, a preacher,
No teacher, narator, professor,
I just want to be me.
Many times you burden me with tasks,
Like my birth, a beast of burden at last,
At times I do them with a smile,
But inside I cry for some while.
Wondering what or who I am,
Am I living for you or me?
So please don't take this to heart,
I'm not frowning on your part,
parenting is tough from the start,
But freedom must have a mark.
Guideance goes so far,
You must learn to open that jar.
release me from such binds,
Let me make mistakes and finds,
Let me fall and pick myself up,
Cause I'm nothing when I'm locked up.
I understand your views,
I hear them through and through,
But I disagree some with you.
But let me be me.
